EXPEDITION FACTSHEETS

The Pipes

This cave is a large system of mostly level pipe-like passages connecting several chambers. The cave has a number of entrances of which we use two; one on each side of the mountain. This is a great cave in which to meet some of the cave dwellers because the spaces are smaller. look out for bats, giant centipedes and big spiders.

Big Spaces, Cool Streams

Two caves for the price of one on the beginners expedition! The first, which goes right through the mountain, is one of the larger systems which we go to. Our beginners expedition explores two chambers whilst the intermediate expedition goes into the heart of the mountain, through the area where birds nests are collected and then on to a river. The second cave is smaller with a deep river flowing from it. A great place for a swim to cool off.

Wet and Dirty

On these expeditions we visit two smaller caves at the base of the mountain. In each there is a river running through the cave so there is plenty of water and mud and in both caves we enter and leave through different entrances. Both caves have beautiful chambers and plenty of wildlife. Please note that high water levels make these routes unsafe after heavy rain - in this event we will substitute an expedition in a higher cave.

The Hidden Valley

Deep in the heart of Sarawak is a valley that can only be entered by going through a cave. The villagers have farmed in the valley for generations using the cave every day to get to and from work and we follow the same route up a path of notched Belian logs. There are several caves in the area; having entered through the first we will visit a second and leave the valley through a third. This expedition combines impressive caves, a glimpse of a unique way of life and jungle trekking through some very beautiful country

Big Big Big

This is the largest documented cave system in the Kuching area with 6Km of surveyed passages and some very very large chambers. Inside the cave there are plenty of scrambles and short climbs but the way is often easy. This expedition is rated 'hard' because the approach takes about an hour over very difficult terrain but the destination makes it worthwhile!
